We've celebrated several 4ths of Julys, Easters, and Halloweens in Budapest, but this was our first Thanksgiving to spend here. Considering it is only an American holiday, there was not too much fanfare for it outside of our American contingent. Kyle's co-workers kindly inquired if this was the American holiday where people dress up scary... They also could not understand why Kyle took off Thursday afternoon and Friday morning. Well of course people, we had to use Friday morning to watch the Aggies!
We were happy to spend Thanksgiving with many friends - 10 adults and 10 kids - at our friends Kim & Allen's home. Funny enough, they are Canadian and their "Thanksgiving" was a month ago. Whatever the date, they graciously opened their home to our large bunch for a wonderful feast.
I pulled out my American food stockpile for the occasion and made GreenBean Casserole, Bebe's Cornbread Dressing and a Pumpkin Pie. I was so nervous about making the dressing, but it turned out great! I may be a contender to make it next year too. Kyle assisted Allen with deep frying a turkey since he'd watched my dad and uncle do it so many times at the lake. It turned out juicy and delicious!

A table full of Polish Pottery!The kids enjoyed playing together and destroying Kim's house. They made turkeys out of toilet paper rolls and glitter pine cones to hang on the Christmas tree. NOTE: Glitter travels everyone on little hands and feet. Good thing Kim & Allen's house is a rental!
Etelka (our babysitter) came to help with the kids.We were so grateful to be surrounded by good friends on this family-focused holiday as we missed our extended family dearly. Can I tell you though - Thanksgiving with friends holds way less drama than Thanksgiving with family!

Now Meredith...you really think there is drama with family...hmmm..imagine that! Glad you had fun with friends. Of course we missed you all very much! Christmas will be here sooner than we think...can't wait!
