We were SO excited to have Babee & Poppy come visit us in Budapest over a week in March! The last time my mom was here was not much of a sightseeing trip - she was helping us move in the first weeks we arrived - so we were so happy to get to show them the city we loved.
We started their visit by venturing out of Hungary to Slovenia, a country we had never visited. Since my parents lived in Germany for several years early in their marriage, they had traveled to several cities in Europe. However, none of us had explored Slovenia yet. We packed up the van and drove to Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. The city boasts small-town friendliness and a relaxed atmosphere. We stayed near the city center and the quaint walking streets.
The main attractions in the city are the castle, the Dragon Bridge and the cathedral. We took our own walking tour of the city, stopping by a flea market as well and enjoying fresh fruit. We took the funicular to the top of the castle hill and enjoyed wonderful views of the city. In the evening, we enjoyed dinner with the Johnson's who were also visiting the city at the same time as us. It was fun to have my parents meet our friends. The following night we managed to find a semi-decent Mexican food place for dinner. At least the margarita was decent :)
On our way from Ljubljana back to Budapest we stopped at Predjama Castle - a castle built into a cave with amazing views. It is one of the most visited castle's in Europe. I think you can see why! We had a nice time exploring the rooms and taking in the breathtaking views.
Upon our return to Budapest Babee & Poppy had a chance to see Caden & Reese's school and meet their teachers & friends. I took mom to my favorite coffee spots (I think we had coffee and dessert every afternoon) and we also couldn't pass up the Easter market in Vorosmoarty Square. Hooray for more trinkets :)
We were so happy to share our home with Babee & Poppy and grateful they took time to visit us.
