Abandoning our sweet children for a night, we gathered some close friends and decided to take a weekend in February just for adults! Four other couples joined us just north of Budapest in Eger, a town famous for its winemaking since the 14th century.
Eger is best known for its castle, thermal baths, historic buildings and (as previously mentioned) wine! Despite the light drizzle and cool temperatures, we enjoyed touring the town, having a traditional Hungarian lunch, and starting happy hour early at a nice coffee house/bar across from our hotel.

Our hotel, Hotel Senator House, was right on Dobo Square and proved to be the perfect get-a-way for our group because they gave us all rooms in our own separate house. This was a perfect retreat for our post-party after our private wine tasting and dinner.

The hotel set up for us dinner, tasting and tour of the Monarchia Winery cellars. This particular wine producer has recently won top honors in the "hottest new category" for their dry red wines. We had a great time learning about the wine-making process, touring their facilities and of course, drinking their wine! I still have an unopened bottle to serve some day soon!
