My Pet

Upon arriving in Atlanta to spend the week with Kyle's family we learned that Lele and Papa Jack had seen many turtles around their home lately. Lele & Caden were determined to find one and make it their pet! The first morning after we arrived Papa Jack had a turtle sighting in the front yard. Quickly, Caden and Lele found a suitable home for the turtle and tracked him down. You should have seen Lele trying to put that turtle into the box!

Caden was happy to make a home for his turtle with grass, leaves and a bowl of water. He and Lele even found some bugs to feed the turtle! Of course the next step was naming him. First he was Captain (my favorite of the names) next he was Peter Pan and last he was My Pet.

For about 2 1/2 days, My Pet lived in the paper box by the garage. We let My Pet out of the box for exercise once or twice a day and always made sure he had water, but My Pet started to look a little off. On the third morning Daddy convinced Caden that My Pet needed to go find his friends and family and *poof* - one of his friends showed up on the patio! Caden decided then on his own to let My Pet go off and play with his friends and the two turtles waddled off together (just in the nick of time I think).

Farewell My Pet!

P.S. The funniest part about My Pet was when I would say, "Caden, did you give My Pet more water?" and Caden would respond with passion, "He's not your pet, he's MY PET!" I couldn't get enough of this, so I did it a lot ;)

The turtle story.."my pet" will live in our hearts forever. Thank goodness for Kyle who gently convinced Caden to let "my pet" go. Lele was getting a bit nervous toward the end of the week when "my pet" was not moving so quick...but now we have "my pet" living somewhere in Georgia...
