We joined several other ex-pat families for a day on the Hungarian Sea on Saturday. Lake Balaton is central Europe's largest lake, and as Hungary is landlocked, it is fondly referred to as the Hungarian Sea.
Ask any Hungarian where they are going for the weekend, holiday, etc. and the response is usually The Balaton (always "the" in front of the name). There are countless small towns dotting the shores, but wherever they are going is always "the best."
We visited the town of Balatonlelle where there is a wonderful sandy beach and access to swimming pools and water slides. For less than $5, our whole family enjoyed the sun, water and shore for the day! We all packed picnic lunches and spread out our blankets and umbrellas and tried to keep track of the 13 kids running around.
The lake is very shallow along the southern shore as you can walk for nearly 1/2 a mile into it with the water coming only to your knees. Great for the kids! The temperature is perfect, about 26 C.
We all enjoyed dinner on a huge patio at a Hungarian restaurant on the way out of town. The food was good, service great and the kids were happy running around. We are already planning to go back this weekend!

Great post! I wonder why? Oh, it's very similar to mine and even stole one of your pictures and some of Mirjana's... thank you for taking pictures! very fun.
