János-Hegy Libegö

We spent another breathtaking day on yet another family adventure in Budapest on Sunday morning. We ventured to the highest point in the city via the most primitive chair lift I have ever been on! Yep, in a city with snow capped hills in the winter it also has a chair lift to get you to the top. The Erzsébet Lookout Tower was built in 1910 and named after the popular Queen Elizabeth. The Libegö (Chair Lift), which gets you up to the tower may as well have been around that long as well!

After purchasing our tickets (about $12 roundtrip price for the whole family), we headed towards the lift entrance. We were determining whether or not we would all be able to ride together when we witnessed several families in front of us climb on the lift together. Ok - yep, we are good to go. So, with Caden in Kyle's lap and Reese in the Beco, we took off up the mountain. Now, really the lift was like any ski lift you ride in the states, one just does not normally ride a 2-person lift with 4 people (one being a baby strapped to your chest). Alas, this is just life in Hungary... Safety is not much of an issue around here probably because Hungary is not as litigious a society as the U.S.

The ride took about 15 minutes to the top and Caden LOVED it! We pretended we were on a airplane (his absolute FAVORITE thing right now) and any fears I had of him being scared of this experience were quickly calmed.

Once arriving at the top, we took a steep hike up the path to the lookout tower and then subsequently up the 101 steps to the top via a spiral staircase! Caden led the charge and Kyle looked a little green :) The view at the top was magnificent and we could not have chosen a better day for this adventure.
