We ventured out today to Hosok tere (Heroes Square) in city center Pest. The square is a symbol of Hungary's past. In the center are statues of the brave men who conquered territory for the Hungarian people, with Arpad as the most famous of all. The monuments at the back of the square, arranged in a semi-circle, depict the rulers, kings and princes of Hungary in chronological order. Behind the square is the City Park, with an artificial lake, large playground area and even trampolines. Caden wanted to jump (thus we paid the required 350 forints for 5 minutes), but once on the trampoline he decided against it. It was a hot day here - 96 degrees, so we didn't spend too much time in the park. However, it would be a nice place to revisit as there were plenty of vendors around selling yummy pretzels, ice cream, etc. and plenty of things to do.
Before making our way to Heroes Square, we stopped at Arriba Taqueria, our favorite little tex-mex place that Kyle discovered when he was living in temporary quarters before we arrived. They serve make-your-own burritos and tacos like Freebirds or Chipotle. As we were finishing eating, another family, obviously American, walked in. The man saw and heard us about the same time we noticed them and sat next to us. We struck up a conversation and amazingly, they are from Dallas (Carrollton). They moved to Budapest January 1st and have 2 little girls (ages 3 and 3 months). Small world... We ended up talking with them for a good hour and a half and exchanged all our information so we can get together again. They were also able to recommend a church they have been attending. I am very happy about this and excited about trying out a church over here. Wouldn't you know, we find fellow Dallasites in a tex-mex restaurant in Budapest!
